Xiaomei Chinese Dance Group was formed in 1990 to share and promote the richness of Chinese cultural heritage through the art of Chinese Dance. The founder, Xiaomei Zheng, as a choreographer, dancer, dance educator, and artistic director of the group, has studied Chinese dance from the famous dance artist, Mrs. Mei-lan Dao from China. Xiaomei participated in the special training workshops for overseas Chinese dance teachers by Bei-Jin Dance University and Yun-Nan Dance institute. Last year she was invited by China Bei-Jin Central Government Oversea Ministry Dept, to receive advanced Chinese Dance, Cultural and Arts training. The Xiaomei Chinese Dance Group is well known in the Edmonton area, performing at countless cultural events and acclaimed for its professional and authentic presentation of Chinese folk, minority, and classical dance. Xiaomei Dance Group has had the honor of participating in the Alberta dance competition and won several gold awards. Through their education of Chinese dances, students, from 4 years to adults of mixed nationalities grow in determination and confidence, and are given a chance to connect deeply with their heritage, and gain pride for their culture. For adults it is a good opportunity to exercise and meet with others.
