Rhonda Thurn

Rhonda Thurn has been involved in all forms of the arts since childhood and has pursued her passion for creating with vigor. She graduated with a B.F.A. in Painting from the Alberta College of Art & Design, after which she has continued a dedicated studio practice. A few highlights of Ms. Thurn’s career have been exhibiting in both solo and group exhibits in Greece, and a film documentary on her metal painting process.

Rhonda has developed a technique of painting on metal with live flame, dry pigments and patinas. Various techniques from encaustic, oil, batik and enamel traditions are utilized to explore painting in a bold, textural manner. This method of painting is innovative and marries the many processes to broaden its scope and readability. The subject matter of these works is the human form with a current focus on the sensuality of the body. The works on steel utilize the human form to create vignettes of time with an exploration into the seductive and sensual elements in daily life. Ultimately, the pieces are steeped in process, with layer upon layer of color and imagery.
