Night of Artists was founded in 1997 by renowned visual artist Phil Alain www.philalain.com in the City of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. The show began as a solo art show with a friend of Alain’s – Bruce Frier- playing keyboards and his Sister Corinne Alain singing as the entertainment. The show was in a little community hall with 20 framed charcoal drawings by Alain and housed a sold out room full of 150 guests.
Now Night of Artists has been showcased to thousands across Canada in such major centers as Toronto, ON/ Ottawa, ON/ Vancouver, B.C/ Victoria, B.C./ Calgary, AB/ Edmonton AB/ and many smaller communities throughout the country.
Night of Artists – (also known as NOA productions)- has formed a unique blend by uniting all art forms into one exciting event and has made its mark by helping promote the careers of many aspiring artists, poets, musicians, dancers, writers and more. In 2004 Night of Artists was able to release its first ever issue of NOA magazine which has made a huge impact nationally and is now in the National Art Gallery of Canada’s archives.
NOA Founder Phil Alain has twice been nominated for the Lieutenant Governor General’s Arts Award for his support of the arts community. Alain has also received international attention along with his partners Lewis Lavoie and Paul Lavoie for their work on the “Lewis Lavoie- Mural Mosaic’s”. www.MuralMosaic.com In 2005 the trio from Mural Mosaic had the honor of unveiling a mural for the Queen and Lewis Lavoie was actually commissioned to paint an image live for the Queen that day as well.
Alain has been fortunate to work with such great artists as Robert Bateman, Joe Fafard, Bill Lishman, Lewis Lavoie, Al Weitzel and hundreds more. Alain has also had the honor of working with such musical talents as The Barenaked Ladies Kevin Hearn, The David Letterman Late Show Orchestra’s Felicia Collins, Colin James, Sue Foley, Tri Continental, Ian Tyson and Lynn Miles to name a few.
Night of Artists continues to grow annually as more and more artists and musicians come together through this exciting organization. Night of Artists, combined with Mural Mosaic, has managed to raise close to 1 million dollars for various charities through their many projects over the years while helping boost the careers of many great talents!
